Water
Emotion and intuition
Water is the element of emotion, intuition and the unconscious. Its three signs are Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces.
What it stands for
- feeling
- intuition
- empathy
- memory
What the tradition says
The water signs are described as sensitive, empathetic and intuitive, with strong ties to family and a need for closeness. Water is fluid and can take any shape, and also runs deep. Dreams are its traditional channel. The shadow side is being overwhelmed by feeling and withdrawing.
The three water signs
- Cancer: Cardinal water: the crab, hard outside and soft inside, protective of home.
- Scorpio: Fixed water: the scorpion, intense, private and persistent.
- Pisces: Mutable water: two fish swimming in opposite directions, imaginative and fluid.
In tarot
Water is the element of the tarot suit of Cups: feeling, love, intuition. Browse every water card, including the major arcana that carry the element.
The natural houses are the places in the chart that match the signs in order: the first house goes with Aries, the second with Taurus, and so on round the wheel. The water houses are the 4th, 8th and 12th.
Tarot, astrology and numerology are traditions of symbolism. This page says what the tradition associates with its subject. It does not predict anything and it is not advice.
