Pisces
Mutable water sign, ruled by Neptune and pictured as the two fish
Pisces is the twelfth and last sign, a mutable water sign pictured as two fish swimming in opposite directions. Neptune is its modern ruler and Jupiter its traditional one.
What it stands for
- imagination
- empathy
- dreams
- evasiveness
What the tradition says
Pisces is described as imaginative, compassionate and sensitive to the moods of others. As the last mutable sign it closes the zodiac, and it is linked with dreams, art and the dissolving of boundaries. The shadow side in traditional descriptions is vagueness and a habit of escaping into fantasy.
Where it fits
As a mutable sign, Pisces closes a season in the Northern Hemisphere. Its element, water, is shared with Cancer and Scorpio.
In tarot
The Golden Dawn tradition, which most modern tarot decks follow, links Pisces with The Moon, Eight of Cups, Nine of Cups and Ten of Cups. The court cards of the suit that shares its element, Cups, are also loosely linked with it.
The dates are the usual tropical ones and shift by a day either way from year to year. People born close to a boundary should look at cusps.
Tarot, astrology and numerology are traditions of symbolism. This page says what the tradition associates with its subject. It does not predict anything and it is not advice.
