How the deck is laid out
The major arcana are numbered 0 to 21 and carry the big themes. The minor arcana run Ace to Ten and then Page, Knight, Queen and King in each of four suits: Wands (fire), Cups (water), Swords (air) and Pentacles (earth). The numbered cards link to numerology by number, and most cards carry a traditional link to a planet or sign in astrology. The number filter above groups cards by a single digit, so 9 holds the Hermit, the Moon and the four nines, and 1 holds the Magician, the Wheel of Fortune, the Sun, the four aces and the four tens. The Fool, at 0, and the court cards have no number.
