Fixed signs are described as determined, dependable and resistant to change, with willpower and endurance. They hold to their routines and their goals. The traditional shadow side is stubbornness, and the old description of the group is that what they fix on, they keep, for good or ill. Fixed signs are often seen as leaders in the sense of steady, committed ones.

Each fixed sign falls in the middle of a season, when the season is fully established: Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius.
The seasons are those of the Northern Hemisphere. In the Southern Hemisphere they are reversed, so a cardinal sign that opens summer in the north opens winter in the south.
