Chiron

The wounded healer: what it stands for in astrology

Chiron is a small body that circles the Sun between Saturn and Uranus. It was found in 1977 and is named for the wise centaur of Greek mythology. Astronomers class it as a centaur object, and astrologers call it the wounded healer.

In the birth chart

In the birth chart Chiron is read as a bridge between a person's old hurts and the help they can later give to others. Its sign and house are said to show where the wound is felt and where the healing comes from.

The name and the myth

Chiron was the immortal centaur, wise and gentle, who taught heroes. He was struck by an arrow poisoned with the blood of the Hydra, and because he was immortal he could not die of the wound. He gave up his immortality to Prometheus and so was released.

How astrology reads it

Astrology places Chiron between Saturn, which gives structure, and Uranus, which breaks it open. The tradition says that the sign shows the kind of hurt: for example, Chiron in Aquarius is read as the hurt of being excluded for being different. Its healing, in this tradition, is learning from the wound and then helping others.

Tarot, astrology and numerology are traditions of symbolism. This page says what the tradition associates with its subject. It does not predict anything and it is not advice.
